New statistical tools for OSL dating

Philippe LANOS IRAMAT-CRP2A

Project team: Pierre GUIBERT, Chantal TRIBOLO, Christelle LAHAYE, Guillaume GUERIN, Norbert MERCIER

Partners: Laboratoire de Mathématiques Jean Leray (Université de Nantes) : Anne PHILIPPE

Finance: €13,000 + one year post-doctoral contract €46,445

This is a project started from scratch, lasting 18 months, centred on the chronology group of CRP2A, but, in addition, covering a cross-theme problem that also touches the two other teams PACEA and AUSONIUS, partners of LaScArBx.

The objective is to develop a statistical tool to enable the carrying out of Bayesian treatment of OSL measurements effected for dating purposes on badly-bleached samples.

There are two types of attendus linked to the creation of this new statistical tool: it will improve the precision and reliability of OSL dating obtained in the case of sediments from caves, stream sediments, or in the case of mortar used in the construction of buildings; it will mean that geochronological data from OSL dating can be integrated with archaeological and environmental information available on the study site, thus leading to the definition of a comprehensive chronological framework; this analysis tool will, in time, be distributed among researchers in the international community working in the OSL dating field, which will increase the visibility of work carried out within the LaScArBx.

To carry out this project, with which the Laboratoire de Mathématiques Jean Leray de l’Université de Nantes will collaborate, a Post-Doc is requested who has a profile including “statistics and applied mathematics”.
